Professor Fisher is Academic Director of the Medical Technologies IKC.

He is a leading researcher in Medical Engineering and is the former Director of the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering. Research interests include joint replacement and substitution, tissue re-engineering and functional spinal interventions. Professor Fisher is also director of Tissue Regenix, a company which specialises in the development of regenerative medical devices.

Dr Dixon-Hardy is an experienced programme manager and project director with an extensive background in scientific research and teaching.

She is Director of Medical Technologies Innovation at the University of Leeds, Operations Director for the Medical Technologies Innovation and Knowledge Centre, Deputy Director of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Medical Devices.  She was Director of Operations for  the WELMEC Centre of Excellence in Medical Engineering 2009-15 and continues to manage the continuation of the activity through the Medical Engineering Initiative funded by the Wellcome Trust.  Jo is also a qualified Business and Executive Coach and contributes significantly to the development and delivery of initiatives which help early career researchers in medical technologies realise their potential.

Dr Raxworthy heads Regener8’s executive management group. A biomedical scientist, he has more than 25 years’ experience in leading research and development projects in the medical technology, medical device and pharmaceutical industries.

In 2007, he founded Neotherix, a regenerative medicine company which was spun out from Smith & Nephew and he continues to serve as its CEO. At a regional level, he is deputy chair of the Yorkshire and Humber Medilink Life Science Business to Business Working Group.

Dr Howling is responsible for managing the Medical Technologies Technology Pool, a live record of exciting research breakthroughs – and for identifying new opportunities that could be developed into Proof of Concept projects.

A cell biologist, formerly working with Smith & Nephew, Dr Howling has a good understanding of the medical devices industry and its challenges, as well as a sound background in scientific project management and innovation.

Dr Spear is a biomedical engineer with significant experience in medical and pharmaceutical device development in both SMEs and large multi-national companies where she led the development of a range of technologies including orthopaedic implants, surgical technologies and drug delivery devices.

Having worked supporting research innovation within the University of Leeds for a number of years, she has a sound background in leading funding development and supporting research translation.
As a Technology Innovation Manager, Dr Spear works with national academic partners to identify and support the translation of technologies through proof of concept funding, ready for co-development with industrial partners.

As National Outreach Manager at the Medical Technologies IKC, Rowan is responsible for the management and coordination of the partner engagement activities delivered by Centre to its commercial, clinical and academic partners in the UK and across the globe.

Her responsibilities include creating and implementing the marketing and communications strategy, including developing and maintaining the Centre’s digital presence, scoping and coordinating events, writing case studies, news, press releases and all other aspects of communications from the IKC.

Beverley as Team Secretary leads the day to day secretarial and administrative function of the Medical Technologies team as well as providing PA support to Jo Dixon-Hardy and Mike Raxworthy. She has worked at the University of Leeds for almost 2 years and is a recent addition to the IMBE team. She has substantial and wide ranging administrative and secretarial experience in both the public and private sectors.
